the jsd approach

My approach to design and business is in direct alignment with my values and overall mission and ultimate goal:

I  value professionalism, enduring holistic interior design solutions, concierge-level client service, and the integrity of the design process.

My primary mission is to design and tastefully select elements that elevate and harmonize function and style within the framework of your chosen architectural style, budget and lifestyle.

My overall goal is to design enduring interiors with a core life span of one to two decades, if not longer.

MY DESIGN APPROACH

When designing your interior, a personal and studied approach is not only preferable- but absolutely necessary. I take time to learn about you: how you will be using your space, special requirements, your thoughts regarding style, quality & performance, and your overall expectations for the project. Along with specific requirements and preferences, I carefully consider the architectural style of your house and skillfully bring that same design integrity through to the interior for a seamless, classic and timeless look. My primary mission is to design and tastefully select elements that elevate and harmonize function and style within the framework of  your chosen architectural style, budget and lifestyle.

I like to mix classic and historic elements with contemporary sensibilities for a refined yet comfortable home. Each layer works in unison to create an aesthetically pleasing and enduring design that lives in harmony with the architecture. Addressing the architectural details first, I then skillfully address every other layer of design in order to yield a truly holistic interior with a long lifespan. My goal is to design interior spaces that last one to two decades, if not longer. This is accomplished by: truly listening to you in order to portray your preferences and lifestyle in your interior design, considering the architecture, addressing as much of your entire home as possible,  and choosing quality materials.

BUSINESS APPROACH

I always select the most appropriate products, fixtures, finishes and furnishings that are specific to your project in regards to both style and budget. For this reason, I do not work with vendors that require yearly sales quotas, I do not maintain a large overhead and I do not carry inventory. Every item and detail is specially acquired and custom designed for your project and your house.

I keep my project load at the boutique level in order to ensure my involvement on all levels; and to ensure your project, and all of its details, are tended to with appropriate speed and accuracy. I am committed to a high standard of client service which includes prompt responses, open communication, offering an all inclusive fixed design fee, promptness for appointments and deliverables, flexible travel schedules, an overall general code of professional conduct towards all parties involved with your project and, lastly,  I am very sensitive to safeguarding your privacy.

I value professional and ethical business relationships and I respect the standards set forth by the architecture and interior design professions. It is my policy to work on a formal agreement for each and every project. Establishing fees, terms & conditions, and the responsibilities that each of us bear to one another sets a solid foundation for communication and expectations. We visit the budget and business formalities early in the project as both a matter of good business practice and to ensure we can openly engage in a rewarding design process thereafter.

I value quality and workmanship, knowing that interior design is an investment both in your everyday quality of life and in the value of your house. Short cuts and quick fixes are shortsighted and end up costing more in the end. As the old saying goes- “buy cheap, pay twice”. For this reason, I only recommend and prefer to collaborate with licensed and insured laborers who have demonstrated excellence in their trade. I commission my custom designs to a  high quality production factory with skilled tradesmen who have been crafting custom goods for discerning clients for over twenty, and in some cases, thirty years. Your home is a reflection of your values, as well as my design integrity- neither of which will be compromised. Quality is a key aspect to an enduring design with great longevity.
