Some beloved family friends just completed the construction of their gorgeous Italianate house (more photos to come). Mr. Wonderful and I were married on the grounds of one of their other estates of Neoclassic style. They just build beautiful things! Its a joy to tour their homes when they are finished and all moved in. Here are a few shots of the Master Bathroom. Enjoy!

Antique mirror and cast concrete columns, a streamlined version reminicent of Bernini's Baldacchino in Saint Peter's Basilica. All of the baseboards, crown mouldings, casings, and cobels throughout the estate are custom cast concrete commissioned especially for this project.

A cast stone soaking tub. Bliss! Out that window is a vista of lush, green rolling hills.
The window threw off the lighting in this photo, so I had to convert it to B+W. Notice the smooth barrel vaulting. Just gorgeous.

The combination of these two rooms is my all-time favorite dual-use room hybrid ever. I would love to dine by candlelight surrounded by the warmth of books and dentil mouldings. When this room is not being used as a dining room, oversized books and a collection of curiosities, perhaps procured through travel, can serve as an interesting tablescape.
Look at the detail in this room, not only in the mouldings, but the nail heads and placement of the books and objects throughout the room. Also note how contemporary art looks amazing in a traditional setting- this juxtaposition happens to be my favorite way to play with art and the interior environment. Also notice how all the color and texture comes from the furnishings, books and accessories. The ceiling, walls, and mouldings are white. The dark floor grounds the space and acts as a canvas for all the furnishings. This balancing act keeps the space fresh and crisp. When you look at an interior, and nothing can be added or taken away to make it better- that is an indicator of good design.
Note: All of my inspiration images have been personally collected since I was a teenager. I do know know the designer or publication from which this photo came. If you are the designer or photographer, let me know so I can lend proper credit!

Lately, I have this irrational affinity towards orange which is nearly saddening. Clients are (very) hard to sway and my husband insists he hates the idea of orange in our home; therefore, I have nothing orange in my life save a few vintage Gucci scarves and the trim and monogram on my canvas "designer bag" (the bag that goes with me everywhere...tape measure, notes portfolio, client files, samples, paint decks, trace paper, pencil pouch, etc.). Oh yeah, and a small enamel frame from Z Gallerie that displays an inspiring fortune from a fortune cookie (which sits on my desk, out of the way from my husband). I have this fantasy of painting my kitchen orange. I picture cararra marble and soapstone counters, a vintage black and white checked floor and brass fittings on glossy white cabinetry. *Sigh*.
Since I can't convince my other half (yet!), and I'm still waiting on a client who wants orange- I have these gorgeous (and orange!) rooms* for satiation. Enjoy!

*Note: these clips are from my personal files, which I have maintained since I was a teenager. I have no clue who designed or photographed these rooms. If you are the designer or photographer of one of these, please let me know so I can lend the proper credit!
